PBI Mexico Statement
November 10, 2025
With deep sorrow, PBI Mexico mourns the passing of human rights defender Blanca Isabel Martínez Bustos, director of the Diocesan Human Rights Center Fray Juan de Larios (FJdL).
For many years, Blanca dedicated her life to the defense of human rights, standing with determination and hope alongside the families of disappeared persons in Coahuila. Her commitment, leadership, and humanity left a profound mark on the human rights movement in Mexico and on all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
PBI Mexico accompanied Blanca and the FJdL through observation visits, advocacy actions, and dialogue with authorities to strengthen their protection and the recognition of their work. The Fray Juan de Larios Center remains a close ally organization with whom we continue to maintain ties of collaboration and solidarity.
In this moment of grief, PBI Mexico expresses its deepest respect and gratitude for Blanca’s life and work, and extends heartfelt solidarity to her family, her colleagues at the Center, and all the people and collectives who shared with her the commitment to truth, justice, and human dignity.
We stand in solidarity and affection with her family, her colleagues, and all those who continue her legacy.
Rest in peace, Blanca. Your legacy lives on.
