CNDH CONFIRMS MAJOR HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS AGAINST STUDENTS OF THE NORMAL RURAL SCHOOL RAUL ISIDRO BURGOS, AYOTZINAPA, GUERRERO
- National Ombudsman [Mexico's National Human Rights Commission (Comisión Nacional de Derechos Humanos, CNDH)] confirms in a preliminary report the veracity of the victims' testimonies and makes evident that federal and state authorities have not acted truthfully.
- It documents the extrajudicial execution of two students, the shooting of at least four people, the arbitrary arrests of at least 24 and the torture of at least one.
- The preliminary report shows that the authorities at all government levels have deliberately tried to distort the facts and abet the perpetrators, as the victims had denounced from the beginning.
- Diffusion of the preliminary report should encourage the delimitation of the remaining criminal, administrative and polical responsabilities.
