The UN Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers, Gabriela Knaul, has released a press statement regarding her official visit to Mexico this October.

The statement covers various themes, including the need to reform the military justice system. The Rapporteur underlined the need, especially given <media 6963>the recent sentences of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights</media>, for a thorough reform and not one which excludes from military jurisdiction only the crimes of forced disappearance, torture and rape.
