Mexico City, 18 March 2016.– Due to the numerous human rights violations suffered by migrants in the state of Coahuila, PBI finds the decision of the State Attorney General to launched a new space for dialogue between civil society and authorities to be a positive step, which will allow for further conversation regarding the treatment of migrants in the state. The Saltillo Migrant Shelter, accompanied by PBI, is among the participants in the new dialogue, alongside others such as the local and state police, the State and National Commissions on Human Rights, the National Migration Institute, and various Central American consulates.
The goal of this space is to bring together all relevant actors regarding migration in the state in order to produce common protocols for the treatment of migrants that are both better defined and better understood. PBI highlights the importance of the Shelter's inclusion in this space, which will allow civil society to share its perspective, which is based firmly in human rights and the well-being of migrants.
