PBI-USA Seeks Experienced Advocacy Coordinator

PBI-USA seeks to hire a part-time advocacy coordinator to work closely with the PBI USA Executive Director, and global PBI staff and volunteers, to help develop and implement PBI’s advocacy strategy in the U.S., in support of the human rights defenders (HRDs) for whom we provide protection. The position will focus primarily on Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico, with limited support provided also to Colombia, Kenya, Nepal, and Indonesia.

PBI reinforces support for Cerezo Committee after death threats

Mexico City, 27 december 2016.- PBI reiterates its concerns regarding the threats, harassment and persecution suffered by members of the Cerezo Committee in recent months. It is worth remembering that on September 30, a drawing with a death threat against the Cerezo Contreras brothers, appeared on a wall of the Faculty of Philosophy and Languages of the UNAM (National Autonomous University of Mexico).

United Nations Working Group on Business and Human Rights: “Journalists and human rights defenders must be better protected”

Mexico City, 13 September 2016.- The United Nations Working Group on Business and Human Rights visited Mexico for the first time on an official visit between 29 August and 17 September 2016. As part of its mandate the Working Group should promote the effective implementation of the 'Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights'1. During the visit, members of the group met with Mexican government entities and companies.
