United Nations Working Group on Business and Human Rights: “Journalists and human rights defenders must be better protected”
Mexico City, 13 September 2016.- The United Nations Working Group on Business and Human Rights visited Mexico for the first time on an official visit between 29 August and 17 September 2016. As part of its mandate the Working Group should promote the effective implementation of the 'Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights'1. During the visit, members of the group met with Mexican government entities and companies.

PBI accompanies CSOs to the Copper Canyon Consultative Council
Mexico City, 15 August 2016.– On 19 August, PBI volunteers accompanied the organisations Tierra Nativa, COSYDDHAC and CONTEC to a meeting of the Regional Consultative Council of the Copper Canyon. Various issues were covered in the meeting in relation the tourism project, which led the local communities to write an official letter to President of the Republic Enrique Peña Nieto in 2014.
Federal Protection Mechanism adopts Preventative Alert for Chihuahua
Chihuahua, Chih., 15 August 2016.– NGOs from Chihuahua convened a press conference to celebrate the adoption of a Preventative Alert for Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) and demand Civil Society to be consulted regarding its implementation.
PBI marked its presence during the conference and will be monitoring the implementation of the Preventative Alert.
PBI Accompanies CONTEC in the Sierra Tarahumara
Mexico City, 9 August 2016.– A court judgement in 2014 ruled that the construction of the Copper Canyon Airport in the Sierra Tarahumara of Chihuahua was carried out without the prior consultation which is legally required by Convention 169 of
