Searching for disappeared people in Coahuila

In the State of Coahuila in the North of Mexico, for years hundreds of families have organised themselves in order to search for their loved ones who have been forcefully disappeared. According to the official statistics in Coahuila, between 1995 and 2018, 1,779 cases have been registered.

"Structural problems in the coal industry" in the North of Mexico

Within the framework of the 12 years since the tragedy of the Pasta de Conchos mine in the coal region of Coahuila in Mexico, on 18th February 2018 representatives of the Family Organisation Pasta de Conchos presented the report "Red coal in Coahuila: here ends the silence", in Mexico City.  This publication, supported by the Heinrich Böll Foundation, tells "the story of the human and environmental cost that the extraction of coal has brought and left" in this northern region of the country; it also documents the struggle that the family members of the 65 miners who lost their lives 12 years ago in the mine have undertaken.

“Problemáticas estructurales de la industria del carbón” en el Norte de México.

En el marco de los 12 años desde la tragedia de la mina Pasta de Conchos en la región carbonífera de Coahuila en México, representantes de la Organización Familia Pasta de Conchos presentaron el 18 de febrero de 2018 el informe “El carbón rojo de Coahuila: aquí se acaba el silencio”, en la Ciudad de México. Esta publicación, realizada con el apoyo de la Fundación Heinrich Böll, cuenta “la historia del costo humano y ambiental que ha traído y dejado la extracción de carbón” en la región norte del país; además, de documentar la lucha que a lo largo de estos doce años han adelantado las familias de los 65 mineros que perdieron la vida en esta mina.

Lawyers defending human rights: a high risk activity

From the 9th til 13th April, a delegation of lawyers from Spain visited the North of Mexico and Mexico City in order to hear first-hand accounts and to draw attention to the situation that lawyers who defend human rights find themselves in, they also wished to understand the state of implementation of the general laws of torture and forced disappearance as well as the strategies that the organisations and defenders use against the Internal Security Law.

Abogados y abogadas defensoras de derechos humanos: una labor de alto riesgo

Del 9 al 13 de abril, una delegación de abogados y abogadas del Estado Español visitaron al Norte de México y la Ciudad de México para conocer de primera mano y visibilizar la situación de abogados y abogadas que defienden los derechos humanos en México, además de conocer el estado de implementación de las leyes generales sobre tortura y desaparición así como las estrategias de las organizaciones y personas defensoras frente a la Ley de Seguridad Interior.
