On 8 July, staff of Oaxacan organization Codigo-DH received a phone call at their offices during which they were threatened in relation to legal proceedings which they are taking in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. Minutes later they received a second threatening call, in which persons linked to the Popular Assembly of the People Juchiteco (APPJ) were mentioned and threatened. PBI expresses great concern about the risk to members of Codigo-DH and urges the competent authorities to take necessary measures to protect them.

The state of Oaxaca was recognised as the state with the highest number of cases of aggression against Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) in Mexico between January 2011 and December 2013, according to a report launched by the Network “Todos los Derechos Para Todos y Todas” on 3 July.
