At the beginning of October, the Chamber of Deputies approved a proposal for the General Law on Disappearances and sent it to the Executive for final approval. Different collectives and groups have worked on the contents of the Law. The Movement for our Disappeared in Mexico was pleased about the approval of the law and stated that it is a tool to deal with the “serious crisis” of disappearances and impunity in Mexico.

The National Campaign against Forced Disappearances meanwhile stated that the fight for a legal framework to prevent and eradicate forced disappearances is not over with the General Law, since it does not comply with international standards nor with victims´ demands.
